Sandy Young
A Scotsman residing in North Yorkshire, a father, husband and lover of blades, woodwork and artisan creativity.
Sandy tried his hand at knife making a little over 4 years ago, since he was a kid he had always tried his hand at making various things and his love for the outdoors, particularly bushcraft, led him to try and create his own bushcraft knife with no materials other than what was lying around his (very small) garage. Over the years Sandy has refined his skills, improved his techniques and expanded his knife creativity to include sgian dubhs, neck knives, straight razors and luxury chef knives.
"I take great pride in my work and my motto has come to be known as 'made to be used', I want people to put my knives to the test for the purposes they were made, whether that is chopping wood, skinning and prepping game or dicing carrots. I am in essence, a self-taught, passionate knife maker, striving to perfect my craft to produce high performance beautiful working knives".
Sandy's love of the craft and the materials used means that he undertakes every stage of the knife design and build by hand. His craftsmanship has been recognised by highly esteemed chefs including Tom Kerridge (The Hand and Flowers Marlow), Andrew Pern (The Star Inn Harome) and David MacDonald (Table Manors Achnagairn Estate), who all possess their very own YoungKnives.
