Youngknives are fully handmade by Sandy, from the initial cut to the final polish. This means that each knife is individually crafted using traditional knifesmithing techniques. All orders can be customised at no extra cost because each knife is designed and made to the customer's preferences.
How do I order a knife?
Please use the contact form on this website or email direct to firstname.lastname@example.org and indicate what sort of knife you are interested in. I will respond to your request and we can discuss your requirements.
You must be over 18 to purchase any knife from YoungKnives and identification will be required for orders.
Why do you use carbon steel as opposed to stainless steel?
Carbon steel is the professional chefs choice for knife steel . High carbon steel if heat treated correctly will produce harder longer lasting edge that holds and incredible razor sharp edge that is easy to maintain. The one difference compared to stainless steels is that if carbon steel is left in wet/damp conditions the blade will rust due to the nature of the steel, so please follow the care instructions. Through time the steel will develop a patina (darkening of the steel) this is caused by the acids in the foods that we cut. This in turn will develop a protective layer on the steel and tells a story of the work that the knife has done, think of your Grans old razor sharp bone or hickory handled knife with the darkened blade, these were all made with carbon steel and are still being used.
How long will I have to wait to receive my order?
This will all depend on what you have ordered and the current wait time. This will be advised at time of ordering.
Can I have the knife personalised with engraving?
Yes! All knifes and leatherwork can be engraved to personalise them. Please see the examples of work I have done in the galleries pages. Please indicate at time of ordering if you require any personalisation.
Are the knives dishwasher safe?
No. All the knives should be cared for using the care instructions provided.
